FTTH) projects for various Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and telecom operators.
At Lahore Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of rich cultural heritage, we were entrusted with the responsibility of setting up a state-of-the-art Ethernet network for security and surveillance purposes inside Kharak Singh Haveli. This project required precision, careful planning, and strict adherence to guidelines to preserve the historical integrity of the site while introducing modern surveillance technology.
Scope of Work
Comprehensive Network Design
Before starting the installation, we undertook a meticulous design phase to create a robust and efficient network layout. The design accounted for the unique structural challenges of the historic building, ensuring minimal disruption to its architecture and aesthetic appeal. Our plan included pathways for underground cabling to connect the surveillance cameras seamlessly to the data cabinet.
Underground Ethernet Cable Installation
The underground network installation was a critical aspect of the project. We carefully excavated pathways within the premises to lay Ethernet cables without causing damage to the site. The cabling was routed from designated points to ensure connectivity between the cameras and the data cabinet, with all pathways securely sealed to maintain the site’s structural integrity.
Deployment of 4MP IP Bullet Cameras
As it was an indoor project, we installed 4MP IP bullet cameras at strategic locations within Kharak Singh Haveli. These high-resolution cameras were chosen for their excellent image quality and ability to provide detailed surveillance coverage. The placement of the cameras was carefully planned to cover all critical areas without intruding on the aesthetic or historical significance of the haveli.
Data Cabinet Installation
All Ethernet cables were terminated at a central data cabinet, which serves as the nerve center of the surveillance system. The cabinet was configured to manage data efficiently and ensure reliable communication between the cameras and the monitoring systems.
LCDs for Monitoring
To facilitate real-time monitoring of the CCTV system, we installed two LCDs in the control room. These displays provide a clear and comprehensive view of all camera feeds, enabling security personnel to monitor the premises effectively.
Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)
To ensure continuous surveillance, even during power outages, we installed a 3kVA UPS. This power backup system guarantees that the cameras and monitoring equipment operate without interruption, providing 24/7 vigilance and security.
Challenges and Solutions
Preserving the Historical Structure
The Lahore Fort’s status as a heritage site required us to adopt non-invasive techniques and ensure that no permanent alterations were made to the structure. We used specialized equipment and methods for excavation and installation, adhering to strict preservation guidelines.
Limited Access for Installation
The haveli’s historic layout posed challenges in accessing certain areas for installation. Our team conducted thorough site surveys to identify optimal routes for cable placement, minimizing disruptions while maintaining network efficiency.
Ensuring Modern Functionality in a Heritage Setting
Balancing modern technology with the site’s traditional architecture was a priority. We selected equipment and materials that blended seamlessly with the surroundings while delivering cutting-edge functionality.
Project Significance
This project played a crucial role in enhancing the security of Kharak Singh Haveli, a vital part of Lahore Fort. By integrating advanced surveillance technology into the historic site, we contributed to preserving the haveli’s cultural significance while ensuring its protection.
Our work at Lahore Fort stands as a testament to our ability to merge modern infrastructure with historic preservation, delivering reliable solutions that respect the past while embracing the future. This project showcases our commitment to excellence in design, execution, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
